I had an interesting conversation with my partner after I had tackled the first chapter of the textbook Adult Learning Linking Theory and Practice. Looking at the differences between teaching children, which she did for thirty years and the teaching of adults, which I am currently learning about. I was curious to hear about theoretical models which were popular during her career, and the ones I am reading about now pertaining to adults. Some parallels and of course many differences. Adults are able to expressly state how they hope to benefit from their time in the classroom. Children need guidance to understand the purpose behind much of their learning in order for them to be fully engaged.
