With life long learning in our knowledge based economy informal learning is the iceberg of Adult education. However there are significant accessibility barriers, high cost, inconvenient times and inconvenient locations. Statistics show that there is an 50% or greater participation in intentional informal learning of adults aged 25 to 64.
PLAR Prior learning assessment and recognition, two-thirds of participants indicated interest in recognition of prior informal learning. There is also significant unmet demand for further education with an estimated 4 million adults with an unmet demand for further education.
In our increasingly highly schooled society there are still substantial barriers for those without credentials and Canada’s education participation still remains lower than Nordic countries that have more developed provisions for adults.
